BAR NUNN, Wyo. — Barbecue lovers, take note: The Bar Nunn Fire Department will host its inaugural BBQ Competition and Spring Festival on Saturday. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be hosted at Antelope Park.
To make the event a success, the fire department is looking for competitors as well as vendors to take part. Firefighter Drew Gibson said any type of barbecue is welcome to be entered into the competition.
“It doesn’t matter if you make steak, ribs, pork, you name it,” Gibson said. “It’s all welcome here.”
After everyone has had their fill of barbecue, winners will be crowned based on votes by attendees, Gibson added.
In addition to the food competition, the department is also looking to feature as many vendors and food trucks as possible. The goal, Gibson said, is to model the event after the annual Fall Festival.
“We’ve been doing a Fall Festival with a bunch of vendors and fun stuff for a while now, and the thought was to do a similar thing for the spring,” he said.
People who want to take part in the competition or be a vendor at the event are asked to call Captain Ashley Edgeington at 307-797-7696. The cost for vendors or competitors to enter is $20, with proceeds going to support the Bar Nunn Fire Department. The festival will be free to the public, though.
The day also marks the reopening of the splash pad, Gibson added.
“If kids want to wear their swimsuits to play, they’re more than welcome to,” he said. “We’ll have some other fun events going on for them, too. We’ll have some trucks there for the kids to climb in.”
Gibson encouraged people to take part in the festival and celebrate the warmer weather.
“It’ll be a great way to ring in the spring after that brutal winter we had,” he said.
