The United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a recall of around 130,464 pounds of raw beef products.
The products may be contaminated with plastic, according to FSIS. The contamination was discovered after consumers complained through the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline. The packaging firm, Rastelli Foods Group in Swedesboro, New Jersey, also reported the problem to FSIS after they received complaints.
The raw ground beef was produced between October 3 through October 15 and was sold under the “Nature’s Rancher 100% Grass Fed Organic Ground Beef 93% Lean, 7% fat” label, as well as the brand’s “85% lean, 15% fat” label.

FSIS says the products were distributed to retail locations in Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois and Maryland.
FSIS says the products may still be in consumers’ freezers and if so they should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
