FDA: E. coli outbreak linked to popular salad mix bags

CASPER, Wyo. – The FDA is warning against eating some Fresh Express brand Sunflower Crisp Chopped Salad kits.

In a release sent on Monday evening, the FDA says U.S. state health and Canadian federal partners are looking into an outbreak of illnesses caused by E. coli O157:H7. They say the Fresh Express brand Sunflower Crisp Chopped Salad Kits are likely the source of the outbreak.

According to the release, the salad kits contain the code “UPC 0 71279 30906 4, beginning with lot code Z, and a best before date up to and including 07DEC19.”

The release says as of December 9, eight people have been infected from three states.

Investigators are still trying to determine which ingredient in the kits may have been contaminated.
