CASPER, Wyo. — Wyoming’s Governor Mark Gordon is directing people entering the state for non-business related travel, to quarantine for a certain period.

The announcement came during a briefing from the Governor’s office in Cheyenne on April 3, 2020, discussing the coronavirus caused COVID-19 pandemic.

“Today I am issuing a new directive that any person coming to Wyoming from another state or country, for a non-work related purpose, must immediately self-quarantine for 14 days,” Gordon said Friday afternoon. “If the individual will be here for less than 14 days, I am recommending they should self-quarantine for the length of their visit.”

The directive does not include persons from Wyoming travelling for work related purposes.

Governor Gordon says that he is continuing to hear from residents in Wyoming border communities about an influx of visitors from out-of-state seeking refuge in wyoming.

“I’ve heard those calls,” Gordon said. “This visitation poses a threat to our communities and to our residents trying to act responsibly.”

Gordon also used the reported influx of outsiders, to address an ongoing issue of a shelter-in-place or stay-at-home order. Gordon alleging that Colorado, a state that has been directed to lockdown, continues to receive visitors.

Gordon addressed several other items during the briefing on Friday, often returning to the idea of a potential shelter-in-place order or other lockdown for the state of Wyoming. However the Governor also made it very clear that he wanted to convey one message to the Wyoming people.

“I want to emphasize the point we are all making,” Gordon said during his opening comments to press during the briefing. “stay home. Wash your hands. Maintain six feet of distance between yourselves. Only go to the store as an individual, not as a group. Do not congregate in groups of more than ten. In the store, if you are a store, for heaven’s sake don’t allow people to mingle in the aisles or the checkout lines. Now that is the behavior we need.”
