Wyoming reports 26 new COVID cases among prison inmates and staff

CASPER, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Corrections on Tuesday reported 26 new confirmed COVID-19 cases among prison inmates and correctional staff.

The new cases were identified via routine sampling in the previous week. The WDOC reported the new cases among inmates and staff at the following correctional facilities:

  • Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution (WMCI) Torrington
    • Positive COVID-19 Cases: 11
      • Staff: 9
      • Inmates: 2
  • Wyoming Honor Farm (WHF) Riverton
    • Positive COVID-19 Cases: 5
      • Staff: 5
      • Inmates: 0
  • Wyoming Honor Conservation Camp (WHCC) Newcastle
    • Positive COVID-19 Cases: 1
      • Staff: 1
      • Inmates: 0
  • Wyoming Women’s Center (WWC) Lusk
    • Positive COVID-19 Cases: 2
      • Staff: 2
      • Inmates: 0
  • Wyoming State Penitentiary (WSP) Rawlins
    • Positive COVID-19 Cases: 7
      • Staff: 4
      • Inmates: 3

Three inmates have died after contracting COVID-19 in Wyoming since the pandemic began, according to the WDOC.

“Working with the Wyoming Department of Health, all positive inmate cases are medically monitored and managed by the Department and our health care provider (Corizon Health, Inc.) in accordance with CDC guidelines,” the WDOC says. “The Department continues to conduct rigorous surveillance testing at all sites as necessary and will provide additional information as it becomes available.”
