Wyoming county reports shortage of oxygen concentrators needed for COVID-19 patients

CASPER, Wyo. — Sweetwater County Public Health said in a press release on Thursday that the supply of oxygen concentrators in the county is running low.

“Having oxygen concentrators for home use is essential in the treatment of many lung diseases including COVID-19,” Kim White with Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County said in the press release.

The devices are used to deliver oxygen to people with breathing-related disorders. White said that the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County’s emergency department has sent home over 50 patients on oxygen since the start of September.

Sweetwater County Public Health says that an order of oxygen concentrators was expected to arrive on Thursday with another shipment expected next week.

“Unfortunately, these orders will not bring supplies to normal levels but we are working to obtain more,” the release states.

Sweetwater County Public Health has reached out to the state to secure more supplies if they are needed. However, the press release states that oxygen concentrators are scarce across the country due to high numbers of COVID-19 patients in need of oxygen treatment.
