CASPER, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) reported 170 new laboratory confirmed and 70 new probable COVID-19 cases in the state in its Tuesday, Feb. 15 update. Updates are not provided over the weekend.
There have been 153,095 total confirmed and probable cases in Wyoming since the pandemic began. Here is a report of COVID-19-related updates that were provided by the WDH as of Tuesday afternoon:
- Cases:
- There have been 120,729 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Wyoming since the pandemic began. There have been 32,606 total probable cases.
- There were 664 active confirmed cases on Tuesday, 139 fewer than on Monday.
- Wyoming has been adding 230.3 new confirmed cases per day over the last seven days.
- 14 new lab confirmed cases were reported in Natrona County on Tuesday, bringing the pandemic total to 13,558. 12 new probable cases were reported, bringing the pandemic total to 8,369.
- There have been 1,689 COVID-19-related deaths among Wyoming residents since the pandemic began. These are deaths “that have COVID-19 listed as either the underlying or primary cause of death or as a contributing cause of death,” the WDH explains.
- Hospitalizations:
- Some hospitalization data reported by the WDH as of Tuesday is as follows:
- Wyoming COVID-19 hospitalizations fell to 91 on Tuesday, down from 93 on Friday.
- Peak hospitalizations in Wyoming occurred on Oct. 21, 2021, when there were 249 COVID-19 patients in hospitals across the state.
- There were 21 COVID-19 patients at the Wyoming Medical Center and 26 at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
- There were 8 of 20 available intensive care unit beds open at the Wyoming Medical Center. 14 of 25 ICU beds were open at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.

- Vaccinations:
- The WDH provides weekly updates regarding how many people in Wyoming have been vaccinated against COVID-19. Here are some vaccine-related data as of Tuesday, Feb. 8 (a weekly update had not been provided for total population as of 4:00 p.m. Monday):
- 44.89% of Wyoming’s population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. That includes:
- 53.7% of adults ages 18 and up
- 74.2% of seniors ages 65 and up
- 32.0% of adolescents ages 12-17
- 11.6% of children ages 5-11

- Recoveries:
- There have been 118,776 recoveries from lab confirmed cases as well as 32,024 recoveries from probable cases reported in Wyoming.
- “A lab confirmed or probable case is defined as recovered when there is resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and there is improvement in respiratory symptoms (e.g. cough, shortness of breath) for 24 hours AND at least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared,” the WDH says. “Cases with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 who have not had any symptoms are considered recovered when at least 10 days have passed since the date of their first positive test and have had no subsequent illness provided they remain asymptomatic.
- The WDH marks people as recovered once their isolation order date has expired. People who test positive are asked to remain in isolation until 10 days after their first symptoms, 10 days after their test was taken, or longer if they are still showing symptoms.
- If people need to be isolated longer than their initial isolation period, they can contact the WDH, who can extend their isolation order. In some cases, contact tracing informs whether a case is considered recovered while in others, the department counts someone as recovered after their isolation period ends.
- There have been 118,776 recoveries from lab confirmed cases as well as 32,024 recoveries from probable cases reported in Wyoming.
- Variants:
- The number of COVID-19 cases identified as variant cases increased by 54 to 9,930.
- 984 cases involving the Omicron variant of the virus have been detected in Wyoming, according to the WDH.
- Variant cases involve a mutated form of the virus that causes COVID-19.
- WDH public information officer Kim Deti said January 24 that this dashboard offers an “incomplete” picture of the dominance of variants in the state. Rapid tests are not sequenced, and there are delays in getting results back from labs where some positive samples are sent.
- Deti said state health officials believe that Omicron is “overwhelmingly dominant across the state right now,” including in Natrona County.
