CASPER, Wyo. — Though local band Mastermind of Monkey has said goodbye to performing, the group made sure to go out with a bang Saturday night via a farewell show at Oil City Beer Company.

The band was the product of father Jeramy Adamson, wife Andrea Adamson, son Tristan Adamson and Ty Moore, a childhood friend of Tristan’s, making it a true family affair. The band recently decided that their latest album would be their last, as Tristan and Ty will soon be moving to the Denver area to further their music career in the bigger market.

Tristan said he and Ty will be rooming together, along with Tristan’s girlfriend, as they look to make names for themselves in Colorado.

“We don’t have a band lined up or know what genre we’ll be working, but I’m excited for whatever comes our way,” Tristan said. “I’m really looking forward to challenging myself and stepping out of my comfort zone. The minute I’m comfortable is when I know I’m ready for a change.

“I’m really happy to be doing this with Ty. … Growing up, we weren’t super close, and he was more of a friend of a friend, but being in this band together made him my brother.”

But while Tristan said he and Ty are ready to take the leap, he conceded that it’s a bittersweet change, too.

“Everything I’ve ever known is here, all the people I care about,” he said.

His parents and bandmates echoed their son’s sentiments.

“Luckily, it’s only four hours away,” he added with a chuckle.

“I know this is the right thing for them,” Andrea previously told Oil City News.

For the Mastermind of Monkey’s final performance together, the group went all out. Over the course of the three-hour show, they were joined onstage by a slew of other local musicians as well as family and friends.

The show was well-attended, too, with the attendees spilling out of Oil City Beer Co.’s sizable venue space into the rest of the bar and even out into the parking lot.

“We’re so grateful for the community support over the years,” Tristan said. “It’s meant the world to all of us.”
