Cowboy Basketball Announces Season

Wyoming opens the conference slate at home against San Diego State and first-year head coach Brian Dutcher on Wednesday, Dec. 27.

The University of Wyoming men’s basketball team announced its 2017-18 conference schedule Tuesday in connection with the Mountain West Conference. The conference slate features nine home contests with nine road tilts. Highlighting the conference home schedule will the annual Border War with Colorado State on Saturday, Jan. 13. UW will also host defending MW Champion Nevada on Wednesday, Jan. 24.

The Pokes will play home and home games with every team in the Mountain West with the exception of UNLV and Air Force, which they will play once each. Second-year head coach Allen Edwards and the Cowboys will face off against the Falcons once in Laramie and against the Runnin’ Rebels once in Las Vegas.

The Cowboys play three home contests in the month of January. To open the month, UW will welcome Boise State on Saturday, Jan. 6. The following Saturday, Jan. 13, the Pokes will faceoff against Colorado State in the first Border War matchup of the season. UW closes out the month’s home slate by hosting defending MW Champion Nevada inside the Arena-Auditorium on Jan. 24.

The Pokes will host five games in the month of February. Wyoming welcomes Fresno State on Saturday, Feb. 3 and follow that up by playing Utah State in Laramie on Feb. 7. Other home contests include San Jose State on Saturday, Feb. 17, New Mexico on Wednesday, Feb. 21. UW wraps up the home schedule on Wednesday, Feb. 28 hosting Air Force.

The Cowboys open the road portion of the MW slate on Jan. 3 with a matchup at Nevada. Wyoming will hit the road and face New Mexico on Jan. 10. Other road contests in the month on January include stops at Utah State (Jan. 20), San Jose State (Jan. 27) and at Colorado State on Jan. 31.

The Pokes play four road contests in the months of February and March. The Cowboys will head to UNLV on Saturday, Feb. 10 and San Diego State on Saturday, Feb. 14. UW wraps up the month with a trip to Fresno State on Saturday, Feb. 24. Wyoming closes out its road schedule on Saturday, March 3 at Boise State.

Wyoming will make a run at a MW tournament title on March 7-10 at UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The first round will be contested on Wednesday, March 7, followed by the quarterfinals on Thursday, March 8, the semifinals on Friday, March 9 and the title game on Saturday, March 10.

Today’s release represents the first phase in the 2017-18 men’s basketball schedule process. Mountain West national television partners CBS Sports Network and ESPN will initiate a selection procedure which will include the shifting of select Wednesday games to Tuesday and Saturday games to Sunday. The national television selections are expected to be completed by the middle of August. Regional partner AT&T SportsNet/ROOT Sports – Northwest Region and Mountain West Network on STADIUM will begin their picks after the national television lineup has been announced.

Individual MW institutions will release non-conference schedules in the coming weeks. Game times will be set once all broadcast networks finalize their selections.
