CASPER, Wyo. — The number of severe thunderstorms warnings that have been issued in western and central Wyoming is about 64.4% below average.
The National Weather Service in Riverton said on Thursday that it has issued 21 severe thunderstorms warnings in 2021. The average number of severe thunderstorms warnings issued for western and central Wyoming per year is 59.
That average is based on data from 2002 to 2021, according to the NWS in Riverton.
In southeast Wyoming and the Nebraska panhandle, the number of severe thunderstorms warnings issued by the NWS in Cheyenne in 2021 is down about 15.4% from the average.
The NWS in Riverton shared data from Iowa State University on the number of severe thunderstorms warnings issued across the country in 2021.
