CASPER, Wyo. — Yellowstone National Park said on Wednesday that a section of the Beartooth Highway will close at 8 a.m. Thursday, October 7 for the winter season.

The closure will be implemented due to the anticipation of snow and subsequent ice on the highway.

“Ice and snow is in the forecast and hazardous driving conditions are expected,” Yellowstone said.

The closure will be in effect between the Long Lake barricade on the Wyoming side of the border to the Montana/Wyoming state line.

The seasonal closure is slightly early, with the closure originally scheduled for October 12.

“Travel east of Cooke City, Montana (Yellowstone’s Northeast Entrance), to Chief Joseph Scenic Byway is possible until early November,” Yellowstone said. “For road status, visit MT DOT and WY DOT.”
