‘No unnecessary travel’ on Casper Mountain Road as snow returns ahead of Thanksgiving

CASPER, Wyo. — Wyoming Highway 251, or Casper Mountain Road, is open on Wednesday morning but a “no unnecessary travel” advisory issued by the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is in effect as of 10:40 a.m.

With snow returning to the Casper area ahead of Thanksgiving, WYDOT webcams show accumulating snow on Casper Mountain Road.

Snow may continue until around 1 p.m. Wednesday on Casper Mountain, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Riverton. Less than an inch of snow is expected to fall during the day on Wednesday. Skies are expected to gradually become sunny in the afternoon. The mountain can expect a high around 33 degrees on Wednesday.

Thanksgiving Day is expected to be sunny with a high near 44 degrees on the mountain. Winds would reach gusts as high as 34 mph, according to the NWS in Riverton. Sunny or mostly sunny conditions are expected during the day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday on the mountain.
