Chain law in effect on snowy I-80 in Wyoming near Evanston; 6-8 inches expected by noon Friday

CASPER, Wyo. — Interstate 80 is seeing some snowy conditions in the Cowboy State with more snow expected Thursday and into Friday.

Chain Law – Level 1 is in effect on I-80 from Evanston to Exit 18 as of 9:45 a.m. Thursday, according to the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT).

By noon Friday, some areas along I-80 are expected to see as much as 8 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Riverton. 6-8 inches is expected in both the Evanston area and around Rawlins. Green River and Rock Springs can expect 3-4 inches of snow, according to the NWS.

Snow is expected to spread across the southern portion of the state on Thursday morning and spread further north throughout the day and into Thursday night.

“The highest amounts are expected along and south of a Rock-Springs-to-Casper line,” the NWS in Riverton states.
