CASPER Wyo. — As blizzard conditions and high winds rock the state, Interstate 25 is closed Saturday from Cheyenne to Douglas due to winter conditions. Closures remain on hundreds of miles Interstate 80, the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) said.
As of 4:30 a.m., WYDOT estimated the reopening time for I-25 to be between 8 and 10 hours — between 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Black ice and no unnecessary travel are advised on I-25 east of Casper.
An existing closure on Interstate 80 from Rock Springs to Cheyenne was extended at 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning east to Evanston as part of a rolling closure. US 30/287 between Laramie and Walcott Junction is also closed.
As of 7:30 a.m., WYDOT estimated that the reopening time for I-80 is between 8 and 10 hours — between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
A blizzard warning is in effect in southeast Wyoming until 5:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon: “Widespread blowing snow will cause significant reduction in visibility and whiteout conditions,” the National Weather Service said. A high wind warning is also in effect and gusts up to 85 mph are expected through 5:00 p.m. Sunday along Interstate 25 between Chugwater and Wheatland and on I-80 between Arlington and Elk Mountain.
