VIDEOS: Vehicle blowovers, damage from flying debris reported as Wyoming sees hurricane-force winds Wednesday

CASPER, Wyo. — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Cheyenne said on Wednesday that 74.8-mph winds were recorded at the Cheyenne Regional Airport at around 12:53 p.m.

“That is technically hurricane-force winds,” the NWS in Cheyenne said. “Damage impacts from locally flying/falling debris have been received.”

Amid the strong winds, partial closures remain in effect along Interstate 25 and I-80 in Wyoming as of 3:40 p.m. Wednesday. I-25 is closed to light, high-profile vehicles from Cheyenne to Douglas. I-80 is closed to light, high-profile vehicles from Cheyenne to Laramie. I-80 is also seeing more extensive closures due to winter conditions. I-80 is closed in both directions from Laramie to Rawlins. Westbound travel is closed to all traffic from Cheyenne to Laramie due to a rolling closure.
