CASPER, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Transportation said at around 3:30 p.m. Thursday that winds are proving to be a challenge for efforts to plow Interstate 80.
“At this time, the wind is battling our plowing efforts by blowing and drifting snow onto the roadway,” WYDOT said.
WYDOT sensors show winds gusting in excess of 70 mph near Elk Mountain along I-80. Gusts are exceeding 60 mph near Arlington.
I-80 remains closed to all traffic in both directions between Cheyenne and Rawlins, according to WYDOT. Eastbound travel is closed from Evanston to Rawlins.
The closures along I-80 could potentially last until Friday afternoon. As of 3:30 p.m., WYDOT listed the estimated opening time along I-80 as 23-24 hours.
