CASPER, Wyo. — Thunderstorms are possible in areas of Wyoming starting Thursday afternoon, and the storms could produce some hail and strong winds, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Western and central Wyoming could see thunderstorms develop in the afternoon and evening Thursday, with storms also possible on Friday, according to the NWS in Riverton. Snow is possible in the mountains overnight Thursday, and rain and snow are possible in the mountains Friday. Western valleys could potentially see snow late Thursday night.

In southeast Wyoming, gusty winds are expected along the Laramie Range in the afternoon, with a few thunderstorms possible in the area during the late afternoon and evening Thursday, according to the NWS in Cheyenne. A little further east, strong to severe thunderstorms are possible in the Nebraska panhandle on Thursday evening, potentially producing large hail up to ping-pong ball size along with gusty winds.

The Casper area, including Casper Mountain, could see some thunderstorms capable of producing small hail and gusty winds after 3 p.m. Thursday with a 40% chance of precipitation, according to the NWS in Riverton. That chance drops to 30% overnight Thursday.

Rain is likely in Casper on Friday, when there is a 60% chance of precipitation. Hail and strong winds will again be possible amid thunderstorms. The NWS in Riverton says that rain is likely from noon to 3 p.m. Friday with thunderstorms also possible. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also possible after 3 p.m. in Casper. The mountain also has a 60% chance of precipitation during the day Friday and could see rain, snow and hail.

While no snow accumulation is expected on the mountain during the day Friday, up to an inch could stick overnight amid a 50% chance of precipitation, according to the NWS in Riverton. The chance for precipitation in town drops to 30% overnight Friday.

The Casper area is not expected to see rain Saturday, but a 20% chance of showers returns Sunday afternoon. That increases to 60% overnight Sunday, with a chance for showers continuing into the new week, according to the NWS in Riverton.
