Wheatland, Chugwater area seeing 79 mph wind gusts; WYDOT reporting blowovers near Cheyenne

CASPER, Wyo. — A wind-prone area along Interstate 25 in Wyoming is seeing wind gusts near 80 mph on Thursday afternoon and I-80 is seeing “active blowovers” amid strong winds, according to the Wyoming Department of Transportation.

The Bordeaux area on I-25 between Wheatland and Chugwater recorded a gust of 79 mph at 4:46 p.m. Thursday, WYDOT sensor data showed.

I-25 is closed to light, high-profile vehicles from Cheyenne to Wheatland amid the strong winds as of 4:53 p.m. Thursday, according to WYDOT.

I-80 is likewise facing wind closures between Cheyenne and Elk Mountain, with the closures between Cheyenne and Laramie due to “active blowovers in the area” in addition to the strong winds, according to WYDOT.
