WYDOT: Wind closures on I-80 from Cheyenne to Laramie amid 60+ mph gusts; hail on I-25

CASPER, Wyo. — Areas along Interstate 80 are seeing wind gusts in excess of 60 mph, and hail advisories are in effect on portions of I-25 on Thursday afternoon in southeast Wyoming, according to the Wyoming Department of Transportation.

Wind closures are in effect on I-80 between Cheyenne and Elk Mountain with travel closed to light, high-profile vehicles as of 12:32 p.m. Thursday. WYDOT sensors have recorded gusts in excess of 60 mph near Elk Mountain.

I-25 is open to all traffic but a hail advisory is in effect from Cheyenne to Chugwater, according to WYDOT.

U.S. Highways 30 and 287 are also facing wind closures between Cheyenne and Walcott Junction on Thursday afternoon.

Wind gusts up to 65 mph are possible along much of the I-80 corridor and some of the I-25 corridor in Wyoming through late Thursday afternoon, according to WYDOT. Snow and rain is also possible, according to the agency’s forecast travel weather impact map for Thursday:
