CASPER, Wyo. — Wyoming Highway 70 over Battle Pass in the Sierra Madres has closed for the winter, the Wyoming Department of Transportation announced Tuesday, Nov. 29.
The area is experiencing strong winds and drifting and blowing snow Tuesday, WYDOT said.
“WYDOT crews in Saratoga and Baggs decided the added wintry weather the area received overnight, including heavy snow and strong winds, warranted the start of the seasonal closure,” WYDOT added.
The WYO 70 winter closure occurs every year. Closure dates in previous years were as follows, WYDOT said:
- 2021: Dec. 10
- 2020: Nov. 14
- 2019: Dec. 2
- 2018: Nov. 23
- 2017: Dec. 23
- 2016: Nov. 28
- 2015: Dec. 14
“WYO 70 will remain closed until WYDOT crews can work to clear the accumulated snow in the spring,” the release added.
