CASPER, Wyo. — Ski season kicked off Friday at Hogadon Basin Ski Area on Casper Mountain.
Ahead of the opening, the ski area had said that only the Boomerang run would be open, but five trails are open on Friday morning, according to Hogadon’s website. The open trails are Morning Dew, Sulley’s, Boomerang, Dickies Delight and Holiday. A map shows the runs at Hogadon as follows:
The Nordic ski season is also underway on the mountain, with 95% of trails groomed at the Casper Mountain Outdoor Center, the center said Thursday.
Snow is falling in the Casper area, and the mountain could see as much as 3 inches on Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Riverton. A chance for more snow is also in the forecast for days ahead, with a 30% chance on Sunday night and a 30% chance on Monday.
Strong winds are expected to pick up on Friday night, with gusts of up to 55 mph possible on Casper Mountain, the NWS in Riverton forecasts. Saturday could see gusts of up to 50 mph during the day, diminishing to peak gusts of 30 mph by Saturday night. On Sunday, gusts of up to 35 mph are possible in the afternoon before diminishing to breezy conditions Sunday night.
