CASPER, Wyo. — According to data from the National Weather Service in Riverton, the Casper area saw roughly 12 combined inches of snow on Saturday and Sunday, with Casper Mountain seeing roughly 18 inches.
The snow adds to what has already been one of the snowiest winters Casper has seen in more than a decade.
The inclement weather forced the closure of several major roadways, including interstates connecting Casper to Buffalo, Douglas and others. Businesses closed early, local events were called off and postponed and some churches even canceled services as a result of the heavy snowfall and hazardous road conditions.
On Saturday, two wrecks that occurred in Carbon County along I-80 led to several injuries and one death. The highway was shut down for hours and traffic was backed up for miles as emergency personnel tended to the scene.
