CASPER, Wyo. — High winds and blowing snow are still plaguing Casper Mountain Road early Wednesday.

According to WYDOT, Wyoming 251, which gives access to Casper Mountain, is closed as of 5 a.m., with an unknown reopening time. The road has remained closed for most of the past 24 hours.

Gusty winds arrived after a weekend of heavy snow that led to at least a foot of accumulation in lower elevations between Friday and Sunday. The National Weather Service in Riverton says gusts of up to 46 mph are expected today as temperatures gradually rise from the bitter and unusually cold conditions of the past few days.

Other road closures in the Casper area include WYO 257 as well as WYO 220 between Casper and Muddy Gap. There’s a “no unnecessary travel” warning on US 26 between Waltman and Casper.

Interstate 25 is closed between Cheyenne and Wheatland, with the southbound lane closed between Wheatland and Glendo, WYDOT said. Black ice and restrictions on light and high-profile vehicles are in effect along I-80 between Cheyenne and Elk Mountain.

The NWS in Riverton says to expect high winds and a high of around 30 degrees in Casper today.
