CASPER, Wyo. — If the skies over Casper are looking a bit clearer than in recent days, it’s because they are, as smoke from Canadian wildfires moves further east and away from the region. Some smoke is lingering, though, so expect to see some haze around the horizon.

The National Weather Service in Riverton is forecasting a mostly sunny morning for Casper with a high reaching 77 degrees before afternoon clouds roll in and rain chances pick up. There’s a 40% chance for heavy rain this afternoon, mainly after 2 p.m. Winds will pick up from 6–11 mph this morning to 12–17 mph this afternoon. Gusts of up to 26 mph are possible.

Heavy rain may continue tonight with a chance of thunderstorms, the forecast says. Some storms could produce gusty winds as well. The overnight low will be 53 degrees.

The rest of the week into the weekend will see similar daily setups — sunny to mostly sunny mornings with afternoon rain chances varying from 40% to 60%, the forecast says.
