CASPER, Wyo. — Casper is in store for a warm, if breezy, weekend followed by a slight chance for snow Sunday night into Monday morning.

The National Weather Service in Riverton has forecast a high today of 57 under mostly sunny skies. Winds will come from the west-southwest at 11–16 mph with gusts as high as 24 mph. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low near 39. Breezy conditions are expected to continue with a southwest wind of 11–20 mph and gusts as high as 30 mph.

Sunday will see the high return to 53 degrees. Skies will be mostly sunny. Winds will come from the southwest at 8–15 mph, shifting to the northwest in the afternoon. Gusts to 23 mph are expected. Sunday night will see a slight chance for rain before 11 p.m., followed by rain and snow showers between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. The chance for precipitation is 30% as the low falls to 32. Winds will come from the north-northwest at 9–17 mph.

During that time, snow will be falling at higher elevations on the west side of the state. Accumulating snow, especially Sunday, is forecast for much of the state west of Cody and south of Lander. Up to 2 inches is possible around Old Faithful, Cokeville and South Pass City, while up to 3 inches is possible in Evanston.

Back in Casper, most showers will be over Monday morning but a brisk and cool day is expected. High pressure is expected to build and bring quiet weather through Wednesday night, according to meteorologists in the forecast discussion.

“The next system, which looks to be potentially more impactful, moves in for Thanksgiving Day and possibly Friday. Uncertainty remains high though,” meteorologists said.

Weather models have not yet settled on whether “there will be anything from the first decent snow of the year in the coldest temperature so far this season to just a glancing blow and only somewhat below normal temperatures.”

Monday’s forecast high is 44 degrees under partly sunny skies. A north wind of 10–14 mph is expected with gusts as high as 21 mph. Overnight, skies will be partly cloudy and the low will fall to around 24.

Tuesday will see continued breezy conditions with a high of 50. Winds will come from the southwest at 10–17 mph with gusts reaching 26 mph. Tuesday night will be partly cloudy with a low near 32.

Wednesday should be warmer with a high near 54 under mostly sunny skies. The low will fall to around 29 as clouds roll in during the night, according to the forecast.

Casper’s Thanksgiving Day forecast calls for a chance of rain and snow showers under mostly cloudy skies. The high should be near 47. Snow chances continue overnight as the low falls to 18.
