CASPER, Wyo. — A 54-year-old Wyoming resident died and another driver was injured Monday in a two-vehicle crash on a county road north of Gillette, according to a preliminary Wyoming Highway Patrol report.
According to the report, the driver of a Buick Century was headed southbound on Highway 14-16 around 4 p.m. Monday when they turned west onto Northern Drive at a high speed and did not straighten out.
“The Buick, at a high rate of speed, crossed the center lane into the westbound lane, striking the Kenworth [commercial carrier] on a driver’s side offset head-on collision,” the report said.
The report indicates a seatbelt was not in use. Speed is cited as a possible contributing factor. Highway Patrol notes that the information in its preliminary report is subject to change without notice. The crash was investigated by the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
There have been 84 deaths on Wyoming roadways this year, the same number to-date in 2021.
The identity of the driver is being withheld pending WHP confirmation.
