Facebook, Casper Police Department

Jim Wetzel, Chief of the Casper Police Department, has released a statement requesting a “true, unbiased assessment of the Department’s past and present standing.”

We release that statement to you now, in full, and a companion video that CPD released on Facebook Tuesday night.

Late last year, the Casper Police Department initiated the development of a 5-year strategic plan to guide the Department’s operations, prioritize resources, enable sound decision making, and inform the community on what we do, why we do it, and how we do it.

The Department, through careful analysis of its strengths, challenges, resources, and opportunities, developed a new vision, mission, and core values. Additionally, the Department identified three critical enablers for strategic success: workforce excellence, enforcement excellence, and organizational excellence.

As part of this process, the Department recognized the need to obtain a true, unbiased assessment of the Department’s past and present standing, particularly in the areas of workforce, enforcement, and organizational practices. Accordingly, and in consultation with City of Casper leadership, the Department is requesting an independent analysis and review of the Casper Police Department’s operations, strategies, plans, policies, and internal organizational practices. This comprehensive analysis is a critical component to correctly and accurately assess the Department’s needs and requirements in order to finalize the strategic plan that will chart the course for long-term, strategic success.

As the Casper Police Department’s service and dedication to our citizens remains resolute, we must plan and prioritize now to ensure the community receives the superior policing services it deserves and requires. We look forward to releasing the results of the review and Casper Police Department 2023 Strategic Plan once they are completed.
