Casper’s city manager, V.H. McDonald has released a statement, echoing an earlier statement from the Casper Police Department, requesting a independent review into the operations of the Casper Police Department.
The Casper Police Department released their statement last night, following the City Council work session, where the Police Department review was to be discussed. Casper Police Chief Jim Wetzel also released a Facebook video, in tandem with the request for the review.

Details of the review or even a broad timeline have not been announced, however the statement from the City Managers office echoed the Police Department statement in many key areas. We print City Manager McDonald’s statement in full:
“In close consultation and coordination with the Chief of Police, I have requested an independent comprehensive analysis of Casper Police Department services.
As the Department has undertaken its own internal review and strategic planning efforts, it is prudent at this juncture to have an external entity review and evaluate its strategies, operations, policies, and practices. This independent review allows for an unbiased assessment of the Department in terms of past and present practices and operations. It also allows for recommendations, as well as potential validation and confirmation, of the Casper Police Department’s 2023 Strategic Plan.
Both the Chief of Police and I look forward to this independent review, and, more importantly, we look forward to sharing the results of it and the Department’s strategic plan.”
