Casper police say they pulled a car over due to a registration light being off, but the investigation led to the drug related arrests of a Casper couple.

According to arrest affidavits, 30-year-old Katie Presfield and 32-year-old Justin Hoskins were arrested in the early morning hours of Thursday July 6th. Police say that they contacted the vehicle, driven by Presfield, near the intersection of 13th and Center streets.

Police had initiated the stop because the car lacked a registration light, a light that illuminates the rear license plate.

When initially questioning Presfield, and the passenger, Hoskins, police say that Hoskins had given a false name. The name, however, was recognized by officers as belonging to someone not matching Hoskins’ description. Hoskins then told officers his real name and stated that he believed he had a warrant.

As Hoskins was being detained for investigation, officers say they were speaking to Presfield through the open driver’s side door of the vehicle. At that time officers observed a syringe in the passenger door.

A subsequent search of the vehicle found the syringe in the door, a meth pipe in a bag, a marijuana pipe in the same bag, and a Crown Royal bag with three additional syringes inside.

Police say they also found a bent spoon in Presfield’s bag that also contained suspected methamphetamine residue. A search of Presfield’s person at the Natrona County Detention Center also yielded a baggie, in Presfield’s clothing, containing a white powdery substance inside. When asked, Presfield is reported to tell officers that the substance was “dope.”

Hoskins was booked into jail on recommended charges of Controlled Substance Possession- Meth, Interference with a Police Officer, and Hold for Probation and Parole.

Presfield was arrested and booked into jail on a recommended charge of Controlled Substance Possession- Meth.

All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Natrona County District Attorney’s Office.
