Woman faces recommended felony drug charge after traffic stop

Casper Police say that the arrested a Casper woman on a recommended felony charge of Drug Possession, after a search of her vehicle was reported to yield methamphetamine.

Deejanae Shantale Kelly was arrested during the nighttime hours of April 11th, she faces recommended charges of Driving Under a Suspended License, Driving Without Insurance, and Felony Possession of Methamphetamine.

Police say that they were on patrol in the area of Poplar Street and CY Avenue, at approximately 9:00 pm, Thursday night.

Officers report seeing a vehicle with a headlight out make an abrupt turn at West 14th Street. Officers initiated a stop on the vehicle near the intersection of 14th and Cedar Streets.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Kelly. After a brief investigation, police say that Kelly was found to have a suspended license, and was taken into custody.

A passenger in the vehicle was released from the scene.

Following an inventory of the vehicle, officers report finding a black purse containing items that led officers to believe that the purse belonged to Kelly. Also inside, officers said that they found two used syringes and a package of unused syringes.

The used syringes contained a liquid suspected to be methamphetamine.

An affidavit in the case notes that Kelly had at least two prior convictions of Possession of a Controlled Substance making a third or subsequent charge eligible for felony status.

ll of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Natrona County District Attorney’s Office.
