CASPER, Wyo. — An investigation into an automobile burglary where firearms were taken has led to the arrest of a suspect by Casper Police.
According to an affidavit filed by the Casper Police Department, Kooper Cavender, 20, was arrested in the morning hours of August 29, 2019.
Officers with the CPD say that the investigation began on August 8, 2019 when they responded to an automobile burglary. Police say that the owner of the vehicle had returned home at approximately 10:00 pm the night before, and the pickup truck was reported as being fine. The firearm is described in the police affidavit as a Kimber KS6 .357 revolver. The pistol had reportedly been inside a holster in the vehicle’s central console.
Neighbors are said to have provided video footage of the possible suspects. Investigators say that the video showed two young white males walk into the neighbor’s yard, and then stumble to the front of the residence.
The incident, according to the video, took place at approximately 4:22 am, on August 8.
Officers recognized one of the suspects as Cavender based on previous contacts with the suspect. The report says Cavender was on probation for Aggravated Burglary.
After being located by police, Cavender stated he was drinking at a friend’s residence. Cavender says his friend broke the vehicle’s window and took the gun, but after seeing video of the both of them posted on social media he told his friend to “get rid of the gun.”
Police are recommending charges of conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary.
