Wyoming State Penitentiary inmate dies

An inmate at the Wyoming State Penitentiary has died, according to a news release.

Carl M. Stewart, Jr. died from a long-term illness on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at the Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins, according to the release.

Stewart was sentenced on June 30, 2011 in Fremont County District Court to 10 1/2 to 12 years for second degree sexual abuse of a minor.

He was serving the second of three consecutive sentences, previously serving nine to 10 years for sexual assault in the third degree, and was facing another nine to 10 years for sexual abuse of a minor in the third degree.

Stewart was born on December 19, 1947 in Bellevue, Pennsylvania, said the release. An autopsy will be performed.
