CASPER, Wyo. — Police in Wyoming are warning of a reported scam attempt, where the caller poses as a member of local law enforcement.
The Cheyenne Police Department says they have recently learned of a “scam” involving persons claiming to be from the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Cheyenne PD, the caller says that the individual has missed jury duty, and needs to provide a certain amount of money, from a money card, or the person will be jailed.

Police go on to say that the phone number the scammers are calling from, is spoofed to show as a number for the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office.
“You cannot pay your way out of Jury Duty,” the Cheyenne Police said in a Monday statement. “Please continue to be aware of these scams.”
A similar scam was recently reported in Casper, where scammers “spoofed” law enforcement phone numbers, asking people to bail loved ones out of jail.
