Man charged with Aggravated Assault following Cheyenne arrest

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – A man was arrested by the Cheyenne Police Department after it alleged he threatened to stab his caregivers with a kitchen knife.

According to an affidavit filed in the case, on July 4th, 2020, an officer with the CPD was dispatched to a location within the city limits of Cheyenne in reference to a report of a male who was trying to attack people with a deadly weapon.

The officer says that upon arriving on scene they observed Kenneth Jenkins, age 37, in the front yard swinging a shovel at two staff members.

“Jenkins put the shovel on the ground and picked up a chair and then threw it at a staff member,” the officer reported in the sworn affidavit.

Court documents say Jenkins eventually got on the ground after several commands to do so by law enforcement. It is alleged that while being handcuffed that Jenkins attempted to kick and bite the arresting officer.

Authorities say that Jenkins was placed into a full-body restraint while being taken into police custody. It is reported that the suspect kicked, spat at, and tried to headbutt officers during his arrest.

According to eye-witnesses, before police had arrived on scene Jenkins had obtained an 8-inch knife from the kitchen and held it in a threatening manner at his caregivers.

Witnesses allege that Jenkins told staff members that he “could hurt them.”

At one point during the altercation, witnesses told investigators that Jenkins had stepped toward one of the staff members while yielding the knife in his hand.

Court documents say that Jenkins made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Monday, July 6th to hear the recommended charges of Aggravated Assault and Interference with a Peace Officer – Injury, read to him.

No bond information is available at this time.
