CASPER, Wyo. — Casper Police say that a man is in custody after allegedly threatening a person with a knife and spraying them with bear spray.
Officers report arresting John Holtz on one recommended felony charge of Aggravated Assault, and recommended misdemeanor charges of Interference with a Police Officer, and Battery.
Casper Police say that shortly after 8:00 pm on Friday, July 31, Casper Police Officers responded to an area of the North Platte river, near West B, Street for a reported assault.

Upon arrival, officers say they spoke with an involved individual, who claimed they had been approached an adult male, while near the river. The reporting party then said that they found some of their personal belongings to be missing.
“A verbal disagreement began and the [reporting party] told officers the man threatened [them] with a knife and sprayed [them] with what [they] believed to be pepper spray,” a statement from the Casper PD said, Monday.
Officers say they were able to locate a suspect walking in the area, who initially refused to stop when officers gave a verbal orders. Officer say they observed the suspect throw an item when fleeing on foot from the officers.
“Ultimately, officers were able to find the discarded item, which was a bottle of bear spray,” Casper PD says. “Officers also observed marks on the victim consistent with being sprayed with the substance.”
