An affidavit of probable cause shows that officers received a report of a stolen work truck from an address on North Park Street in Casper.
“[The reporting party] was watching his truck as the unknown suspect was driving it westbound towards Poplar Street,” police write in the affidavit.
Officers say they searched the area in patrol vehicles when they observed a truck matching the description of the stolen vehicle, driving through a hotel parking lot, near Poplar Street and Werner Court. The vehicle was reportedly driving without headlights.
The driver of the vehicle was reportedly wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black mask. As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the affidavit accuses the driver of turning the wheel of the vehicle, and accelerating the truck, almost striking a Casper PD patrol vehicle.
The suspect continued eastbound on F Street, and into North Casper, ultimately entering a construction zone on K Street.
“Officers followed, with knowledge that the construction would ultimately stop the driver’s elusive movements,” Casper PD officers write in the affidavit. “[The suspect] stopped in the Area of K Street and Saint Mary Street, exited the vehicle, and ran from officers on foot, northbound through the alley.”
Officers reportedly gave chase before the suspect tripped over a pile of wood and became caught up in a tree, where he was apprehended by officers and taken into custody.
The Casper Police Department says that McCain was also wanted in connection with a stolen vehicle case out of the Town of Mills, on August 14, 2020. Casper PD reports that Mills officers had attempted to pursue a suspect in a vehicle that night, but were unsuccessful in apprehending him.
All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Natrona County District Attorney’s Office.
