CASPER, Wyo. — A suspect accused of Strangulation of a Household Member and Domestic Battery was arrested late last week, by the Casper Police Department.
According to documents released by the Natrona County Circuit Court, Yonathan Bernardino Islas, born 1993, was arrested during the early morning hours of September 25, 2020 after being contacted by police. The court documents indicate that Bernardino Islas admitted to officers that he was currently on bond in a separate matter, at the time of arrest.
Police say that they responded to a call for assistance; at approximately 11:00 pm, June 24, 2020; from a reporting party who was travelling and en route to the Casper Police Department. After meeting with the individual, officers say it was reported that a man, identified as Bernardino Islas, had choked the individual, and grabbed them by the head, before being thrown to the floor.

The accuser indicated to police that they lived in a private residence with Bernardino Islas, and that the two had been in a verbal argument, before the suspect is alleged to have struck the accuser in the face with his hand. The reporting party then told police that they began walking away, when Bernardino Islas came up behind them, and alleged that Bernardino Islas grabbed the back of the accuser’s head by the hair, and places his hand on their throat.
The victim says that the hand remained on their throat for several seconds, before it was eventually removed. The accuser then said they contacted an acquaintance, left the scene, and called law enforcement.
Police say that after speaking with the accuser, they went to a private apartment on Blackmore Road, in order to contact Bernardino Islas. Officer say they knocked on the door of the apartment and waited approximately twenty minutes without an answer.
The reporting party is said to have joined officers and let them into the apartment, where police made contact with Bernardino Islas.
An affidavit filed in the case says that Bernardino Islas told officers that he did not answer the door because he was scared and on bond.
During an interview, Bernardino Islas claimed that he had previously been in a verbal altercation with the accuser, and at one point claimed the pair had mutually shoved each other. However, police say that Bernardino Islas denied striking or strangling the accuser during the evening.
Police say that Bernardino Islas was confirmed to be on bond for another case involving Domestic Battery and Strangulation of a Household Member, dating back to February of 2019.
The suspect was arrested and transported to the Natrona County Detention Center without further reported incident.
All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Natrona County District Attorney’s Office.
