A pipe bomb and an undisclosed amount of suspected methamphetamine have been seized, and one suspect is in jail following contact with Wyoming law enforcement.
The Rock Springs Police Department released a written statement Tuesday regarding the arrest of Spencer Cottrell who has been recommended for charges of Driving While License Suspended, Failure to Maintain Insurance, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude, Interference with a Peace Officer, and Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine.
Officers of the Rock Springs Police Department say they initiated a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Walnut Street in Rock Springs, February 14, 2021, at approximately 9:00 pm.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Cottrell reportedly attempted to elude officers but his vehicle became stuck in the snow and Cottrell is accused of fleeing the sceneon foot.
Officers were able to catch Cottrell and take him into custody. A subsequent search of his person and belongings reportedly yeilded 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
“Cottrell’s vehicle contained a pipe bomb in the front passenger area,” Rock Springs Police said. “The Sweetwater County Bomb Squad was called to the scene and safely disarmed the pipe bomb.”
Cottrell was placed under arrest without further reported incident.
All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Sweetwater County District Attorney’s Office.
