An affidavit filed by the Cheyenne Police Department says that officers were summoned to a call reporting an active disturbance involving a firearm just after 8:00 a.m. on Aug. 21, 2021.
The resident of a private home reported that they were sleeping on a couch in the home’s garage when they awoke to the suspect standing over them. The suspect was reportedly carrying a handgun and told the victim, “I’m going to use this to get answers.”
The affidavit says that the suspect was known to the victim, and that they were asking for information regarding a third party. During the incident it was reported that the victim tried to call somebody using a cell phone, but the suspect struck the phone from their hand and struck the victim with an unknown object.
Officers indicate that at the time of the police contact, the victim was suffering from lacerations to their mouth.
The victim reported trying to stand up, but alleges that the suspect shoved them, causing the victim to strike their head on the side of a vehicle parked inside the garage. The victim was eventually able to leave the building.
Police report that surveillance footage from the area shows an adult male matching the suspect description attempting to enter the private home before eventually entering the backyard and approaching the garage area.
Moments later, the suspect is reportedly seen on the footage fleeing the area. The victim follows shortly thereafter, and can be seen entering a vehicle and leaving the area, investigators say.
The suspect, identified as Devon J. Souza, born 1994, was charged during a hearing on Aug. 25, 2021. A $10,000 bond was issued for the suspect. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing later this month, to see if his charges will be bound over to District Court.
