CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Cheyenne Police Department said Monday that officers arrested a suspect in relation to an incident of a man setting another individual on fire at a local park this weekend.

Kenneth Potter, 54, is charged with aggravated assault. He remained in jail Monday morning.

Officers responded around 1:15 a.m. Sunday to a report of an aggravated assault at 1111 Martin Luther King Court, the location of Martin Luther King Jr. Park. There, the department noted in a news release that it encountered a male victim with severe burn injuries suffered after being set on fire while he was attempting to sleep in the park.

Police said they found Potter later in the park with a knife the victim dropped while standing up after being set on fire, as well as lighters.

The victim was taken to the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center for treatment. The department’s detective bureau is continuing to investigate the case, the release said.
