CASPER, Wyo. — The Casper Police Department will recognize April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month with a campaign to educate the public about risk factors and empower individuals to prevent the crime.

“Although we know one month is not enough time to solve the serious and widespread issues of sexual violence, we do want to take the time to focus on the prevalence of sexual violence in our community,” the department posted on social media.

An American is sexually assaulted every 73 seconds, according to RAINN (the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network). Every nine minutes, that victim is a child, the organization said. April is also recognized as National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

CPD Victim Services Coordinator Leslie Fritzler says there is a robust and interconnected network of specialists available to victims or anyone affected by the crime.

“If you, or someone you know, needs assistance, please call the Victim Service Unit at 307-235-8347 or Dispatch at 307-235-8279.”

The Natrona County Sheriff’s Office Victim Response Unit can be reached at 307-235-9338.
