Micayla Shaw enlisted her friend Sydnie Eller to help her haul miscellaneous personal belongings up two flights of stairs at Casper College’s Residence Hall on Sunday afternoon.
The things that fit in her late-90s midsize sedan would help Shaw make it through another junior college school year. A slow cooker. A hairdryer. Whiteboard. Small TV. Two pillows that don’t match and an assortment of blankets.
Shaw, from Wheatland, and Eller, from Glendo, have been friends since high school. Though they didn’t attend the same high school, Eller did play with Shaw on Wheatland’s basketball team for a bit.
Both were unfazed by the new school year. Going into their second year, they’ve been through this before. Shaw said goodbye to her parents earlier that morning. “It’s nothing new, really,” shrugged Shaw, who’s pursuing a degree in secondary history education.  “It’s only an hour-and-a-half away,” said Shaw about Wheatland.
Residence Hall had been buzzing all weekend as new and returning students made temporary homes in their rooms. Orientation started Friday, and a back to school BBQ commenced on Sunday evening.
The first day of classes are today.
