One person is dead and another injured after a head-on collision between a car and a commercial vehicle near Rock Springs on Wednesday.

According to a Wyoming Highway Patrol preliminary report, Chad Collard, 23, was heading southbound on County Road 15 in an Impala when the vehicle crossed the center lane into the northbound lane into the path of an oncoming Sterling combination unit.

The two vehicles collided head-on, which caused the combination unit to drive over the top of the Impala.

“Due to the severity of the impact and damage to the Impala, the driver’s seatbelt of the Impala was torn free from the car and the driver came to rest lying next to the vehicle,” said the report.

No details were given on the condition of the other driver. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts according to the report, and the conditions were clear at the time. No cause for the crash, which is under investigation, was given.
