CASPER, Wyo. — Wyoming resident Arnold Olguin, 74, died after a crash on Interstate 80 near Evanston on Wednesday, October 13, according to a preliminary crash report filed by the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
Olguin was driving in a Chevrolet pickup headed westbound on I-80 in the right-hand lane. The truck collided with the right-rear drive axles and the right front side of a trailer being hauled by a Volvo commercial motor vehicle.
The semi had been headed eastbound on I-80 and was turning around in the crossover at a road closed gate due to I-80 eastbound being closed in a rolling closure following snowstorms in Wyoming, according to the WHP. The commercial vehicle made a left-hand turn in front of the Chevy pickup.

“After colliding with the Volvo, the Chevrolet entered into a counterclockwise rotation and the right-side of Chevrolet collided with the left rear corner of the Freightliner trailer,” the WHP said. “The Freightliner was parked in the emergency lane on the westbound side of I-80 due to the road closure.”
The WHP reported that troopers responded to the crash at around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. The crash occurred around milepost 7.4.
Olguin had been wearing a seatbelt, but the WHP that it was being improperly used at the time of the crash.
Four other people involved in the crash were not injured.
