CASPER, Wyo. — A driver and a passenger were ejected from a vehicle during a rollover crash on Interstate 80 near Rawlins, Wyoming on Friday and both were taken to a hospital, according to a preliminary crash report filed by the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
Idaho-resident Bayron Amaya Torres, 18, died of his injuries at the hospital, according to the WHP. Torres had been the passenger during the crash.
Torres and the driver had been traveling eastbound on I-80 on Friday morning in a Toyota Tacoma. The truck came onto an icy bridge deck and entered a slight left curve at around milepost 212.8.
“The bridge deck was icy, and [the] driver lost control while crossing,” the WHP said. “The Tacoma exited the roadway on the left side, where the driver overcorrected back to the right. The Tacoma went into a driver-side–leading skid, and tripped prior to entering the roadway.”
“The Tacoma rolled multiple times and came to rest on top of the cable barrier. Both occupants were ejected during the rollover.”
The WHP report states that neither person was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The WHP was notified of the crash at around 8:10 a.m. Friday, November 12.
