GILLETTE, Wyo. — A woman reported missing from Wright was rescued yesterday near Highway 387 after spending two nights in a draw where she got stuck in the mud while walking, Campbell County Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said Thursday.
The woman, 57, was located by a man walking his dog in a nearby field approximately one-half mile south of Highway 387 on Highway 59 shortly before 5 p.m., Reynolds said on March 17.
Deputies responded to the scene and were accompanied by emergency medical services after it was learned that the woman had spent the last two nights in the ditch after she couldn’t break free of the mud and couldn’t signal for help because no one could see her from the road.
The only way anyone would have seen her, Reynolds said, is if they had been walking in the field much like the man who called the sheriff’s office had been.
When emergency personnel arrived, they were able to extricate the woman from the mud and she was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
The 57-year-old woman had been missing for two days at the time of the report and was entered into NCIC as a missing person on March 14 when her sister could not find her at a residence on Teton Drive in Wright, per Reynolds.
