CASPER, Wyo. — The Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) said in a press release Monday that an Evanston resident died as a result of injuries sustained in a rollover crash on Sunday, April 10, on Interstate 80.

James G. La Rocco, 53, was taken by helicopter after the crash to a hospital in Utah, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to the WHP.

La Rocco had been driving west in a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer east of Evanston on Sunday evening when the single-vehicle rollover occurred. He was driving in the left lane on I-80 when the SUV crossed into the right lane “before exiting the right side of the road and overturning,” according to the WHP.

WHP troopers were notified of the crash at around 7:25 p.m. Sunday. La Rocco was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The WHP add that a possible medical condition is being investigated as a factor contributing to the crash.

There have been 19 roadway fatalities in Wyoming so far in 2022. Year-to-date crashes at this time in 2021 totaled 25, compared with 19 in 2020 and 39 in 2019.
