Driver dies in May 1 rollover crash in western Wyoming

CASPER, Wyo. — A driver died in rollover crash near Thayne, Wyoming in Lincoln County on Sunday, May 1, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP).

Wyoming resident Jefferson Lysager, 48, succumbed to injuries sustained at the scene of crash on County Road 116 (Prater Canyon).

Troopers were notified of the crash at around 2 a.m. Sunday, according to the WHP. Lysager had been heading eastbound in a Buick Le Sabre “at a high rate of speed” when he lost control.

“The vehicle exited off the eastbound shoulder, where it tripped and rolled several times out through a field,”
the WHP’s preliminary report of the crash states.

Lysager was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to the WHP. Speed is being investigated as a possible contributing factor to the crash.

There have been 26 fatalities on Wyoming roadways so far in 2022 compared with 30 to date in 2021, 25 in 2020 and 54 in 2019, according to the WHP.
