CASPER, Wyo. — A 5-year-old child died and three were injured after their car crashed into a Kenworth commercial truck west of Casper on June 9.

According to a Wyoming Highway Patrol release, the Kenworth was heading east on Wyoming 220 when a 2008 Honda Pilot was stopped on Pathfinder Road facing north.

As the truck passed through the intersection, the Pilot rapidly accelerated forward into the path of the truck, which then hit the driver’s side. Both vehicles overturned, the report said.

The driver of the Honda was identified as Sierra White, 23, of Evansville, Wyoming. The passenger was Catherine Brummett, 27, also of Evansville. Both were wearing seatbelts and were taken to the Wyoming Medical Center.

Two children, ages 4 and 5, were in the back wearing seatbelts, the report said. Both children were also sitting in car seats approved for their ages and heights. Both were transported to the Wyoming Medical Center, where the 5-year-old boy died from his injuries.

The driver of the Kenworth was Howard Lorenzen, 62, of Lusk. He was wearing a seatbelt and was transported to the WMC for injuries.

The department says driver inattention and cellphone use on the part of White are being investigated as potential factors.

A GoFundMe page has been started for the family of the 5-year-old boy.
