Cause of structure fire on South Fifth Avenue unknown; no injuries reported

CASPER, Wyo. — Natrona County Fire District and the Mills Fire Department responded to a structure fire around 1:10 a.m. Saturday July 23, they announced in a release Sunday. The fire was located at the 200 block of South 5th Avenue in Mills, and a detached shop was “fully involved” in the blaze.

“Firefighters arrived on scene and found heavy fire coming from the detached shop with fire impinging on the properties and neighboring structures,” the release stated. Three people were in the house at the start of the fire, but made it out prior to fire units’ arrival thanks to alerts by neighbors and passersby.

Once crews arrived at the scene, they began suppression tactics and were able to quell the fire before it spread into other structures. At the same time, they conducted a search of the house, which came up clear. In addition to the shop, the home on the property was damaged, but only on its exterior. Minimal smoke damage was found inside the home, so occupants were allowed to return following the incident.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this point, said Natrona County and Mills in their release, and Casper Fire-EMS Inspector Mark Graff continues to investigate. No injuries were reported by the residents or by anyone at the scene.

The detached shop, where the fire seemed to begin, was significantly damaged.

“All units operating on this fire scene worked great together and interagency cooperation was well integrated,” the release stated. “We would like to take this time to remind everyone to check their smoke detectors in their homes to make sure they are properly working.”
